Governor Udom Emmanuel has been commended for impacting on the grassroot in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of the State. The President, Eastern Obolo 1 Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, Mr Evans Eribo, made the commendation last week at the launch of a brand new fishing boat facilitated for the Eastern Obolo 1 Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Society by State Government assisted Loans. The project comprises a locally fabricated boat powered by a 25 horse power outboard engine; fishing nets, and other boat paraphernalia. The boat, which was constructed locally by artisans in the area is designed to stay in the high sea for up to three days.

Eribo stated that this would be the first time the grassroots in Eastern Obolo would effectively benefit directly from a Government scheme. He said the area had suffered neglect and was seldom remembered during grassroots empowerment programmes. He however thanked the Udom Emmanuel administration for the Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Society initiative which he described as a panacea for rural development and grassroots empowerment. Also speaking, the Secretary, Eastern Obolo 1 Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, Mr Inomida Ukarajit said the fishing boat will provide gainful employment for members of the MPCS thereby improving their livelihood. Ukarajit commended the Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Association for providing guidance and not politicizing membership of the organization.

Responding, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr Ime Uwah who also doubles as the Project Supervisor, Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Association, commended the industry and enterprise of the Eastern Obolo 1 Dakkada Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, describing them as true exemplifiers of the Dakkada Spirit. Uwah said he was delighted that the hard work of the Eastern Obolo 1 Dakkada MPCS was paying off.
